Geopolymers as Sustainable Material for Strengthening and Restoring Unreinforced Masonry Structures: A Review

چکیده
Unreinforced masonry (URM) structures are vulnerable to earthquakes; thus, materials and techniques for their strengthening restoration should be developed. However, the used in some of existing retrofitting technologies URM waste produced at its end-of-life unsustainable. The production ordinary Portland cement (OPC) worldwide has enormously contributed global carbon footprint, resulting persistent environmental problems. Replacing OPC with geopolymers, which more sustainable environmentally friendly, presents a potential solution these Geopolymers can replace component engineering cementitious composites (ECC), recommended strengthen restore structures. In present paper, state-of-the-art knowledge development on applying geopolymers is discussed. discussion focused components, material characterization, as material, fiber-reinforced application Based this review, it was found that mechanical properties par OPC; however, there few studies mentioned applications geopolymers. characterization geopolymers’ physical still limited. Testing unreinforced masonry structures at reduced scale
When testing multi-story structures on a shaking table, most testing facilities require a reduced scale model. Producing scale test units at small scale is particularly challenging for unreinforced masonry structures. Previous work by other researchers showed that scaling of units and mortar joints is mandatory in order to obtain for the reduced scale masonry failure modes, which are similar to...
متن کاملTowards Displacement-Based Seismic Design of Modern Unreinforced Masonry Structures
Unreinforced masonry (URM) structures are known to be rather vulnerable to seismic loading. Modern URM buildings with reinforced concrete (RC) slabs might, however, have an acceptable seismic performance for regions of low to moderate seismicity. In particular in countries of moderate seismicity it is often difficult to demonstrate the seismic safety of modern URM buildings by means of force-ba...
متن کاملFlexural Tension in Unreinforced Masonry
Unreinforced masonry is that in which the tensile strength of the masonry is taken into consideration in design. Allowable out-of-plane tensile stress values are a function of the mortar type, such as Portland cement/lime mortar vs. masonry cement mortar or type M or S mortar vs. type N mortar. The allowable tensile stress is also a function of the masonry construction, such as tension parallel...

ABSTRACT: This paper explores the behavior of infill masonry structures strengthened with a new type of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) strengthening system with high fracture strain know as PET (Polyethylene Teraphthalate) and a new near-surface mounted (NSM) Carbon fiber strengthening system using a cementitious material as the adhesive as compared to a Glass Fiber (GFRP) strengthening system ...
متن کاملEffective stiffness of unreinforced brick masonry walls
Code design of Unreinforced Masonry (URM) buildings is based on elastic analysis, which requires as input parameter the effective stiffness of URM walls. Current approaches estimate the effective stiffness as fixed ratio of the gross sectional stiffness but comparisons with experimental results have shown that this does not yield satisfactory predictions. In this paper, a recently developed ana...
